THE KING OF QUEENS
THE KING OF QUEENS is not only the king of its
timeslot, but also the queen of America’s hearts. Set in
the working-class suburb of Queens, New York, THE KING OF QUEENS
follows Doug Heffernan (Kevin James) an amiable parcel delivery
driver and his spitfire wife, Carrie, (Leah Remini) a legal secretary,
as they explore the everyday challenges of love, life, family and
marriage.
Perhaps not as sleek and glamorous as those other New York couples
who inhabit our television sets, Doug and Carrie Heffernan deal
with the day to day domestic realities that reflect the times we
live in and their down-to earth comedy enables the audience to
laugh at themselves.
First introduced to the Heffernans during their third year of marriage,
fans have since witnessed the maturation of their relationship,
which continues to be redefined by their shared experiences. Although
their methods are often far from conventional, Doug and Carrie
manage to find compromise with each dilemma they face—whether
it’s dealing with their new neighbors who seem to be more ‘high-brow’ than
the Heffernans or Doug’s fixation with food.
Throughout it all, one of their greatest challenges has been privacy.
With Arthur (Jerry Stiller), Carrie’s twice-widowed father,
living in their basement, it has been difficult for Doug and Carrie
to find the time to nurture their relationship as well as care
for the rambunctious Arthur. This season, Arthur’s dog walker
Holly (Nicole Sullivan) returns as a recurring character, and will
continue to take Arthur for walks and mainly keep him company.
Reminiscent of The Honeymooners, THE KING OF QUEENS finds humor
in life’s ever-day situations and it’s those small
daily problems which provide some of the funniest moments. In season’s
past, we have seen Doug try to come to terms with the fact that
Carrie buys his clothes at the Big and Tall shop, and Carrie returned
to school at night to complete her college degree after feeling
inadequate compared to the other females in her office. They also
handled the separation of their best friends Deacon and Kelly,
and dealt with Arthur’s health scare that resulted in an
angioplasty.
THE KING OF QUEENS is produced by Hanley Productions, Inc. and
CBS Productions, in association with Sony Pictures Television.
The series was co-created by David Litt and Michael J. Weithorn.
Michael also series as an executive producer along with Josh Goldsmith & Cathy
Yuspa, Kevin James and Tony Sheehan. David Bickel, Rob Schiller
