THE PEOPLE'S COURT

THE PEOPLE’S COURT is on UPN20 with Judge Marilyn Milian on the bench, presiding over the courtroom that launched the entire television court show genre.

THE PEOPLE’S COURT, produced by Ralph Edwards/Stu Billett Productions (the same company responsible for the original series which ran for 12 years), draws on ordinary people who have filed grievances in civil court and have opted to have their cases heard and mediated by Milian. An experienced team of researchers continually canvasses courts across the country, in search of the most compelling, unique and thought-provoking cases. Cases run the gamut from disputes between neighbors, family members and lovers to dissatisfied customers suing businesses. Milian’s decisions, based on current law, are final and binding.

Judge Marilyn Milian brings over 18 years of legal experience to the bench. Milian was appointed to the Miami Circuit Court in 1999 by Governor Jeb Bush, where she served in the Criminal Division. Prior to that, she spent five years in the Miami County Court, in the Domestic Violence Court and Criminal and Civil divisions. She was appointed to the County Court by then-Governor Lawton Chiles. Before serving in the County Court, Milian worked for ten years as an Assistant State Attorney for the Dade County State Attorney’s Office (Janet Reno hired her for the position).

Joining Milian is multiple Emmy Award-winning investigative reporter Harvey Levin, who serves as the series’ host and legal reporter. In addition to introducing the cases to viewers, Levin literally takes THE PEOPLE’S COURT to the people by polling fans gathered in New York City at the Times Square Visitors’ Center, who watch the cases via monitor. These spirited discussions and debates regarding the cases and Milian’s decisions are then incorporated into the show, in a segment called “The People’s Corner.” An attorney and law professor, Levin also examines and explains the legal issues and precedents introduced in the cases.

Rounding out THE PEOPLE’S COURT team are in-court reporter Curt Chaplin and court officer Douglas McIntosh. Chaplin interviews litigants after a decision has been rendered in their cases. As court officer, McIntosh assists Milian in maintaining courtroom order, as well as acting as an intermediary between her and the litigants.

Now a classic, THE PEOPLE’S COURT premiered in the 1981-1982 season and ran through the 1992-1993 season, producing 2,340 episodes and often ranking as the highest-rated syndicated series.

THE PEOPLE’S COURT is a Ralph Edwards/Stu Billett Production and is distributed by Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution, an AOL Time Warner Company.
